A state of Emergency was declared by Mayor John M. Holbrook for the Town of Lake Placid at 1:56 PM September 26, 2022.

The Lake Placid Government Center will close at 3 PM , September 27th, (Tuesday) and will evaluate reopening on September 30th, (Friday) at Noon, up until which the Government Center will closed for certain.  If the building doesn't have electrical power we will not attempt reopening until October 3rd (Monday).

 

Police services and the police sttion at 8 North Oak Avenue will be active absent high winds.

 

Water and wastewater services are some of the most hardened and dependable in the state and no problems are anticipated.


The Town will try to pickup garbage normal on September 30th (Friday), however, if winds are still high town residents are advised to wait until Tuesday to put out garbage.   Depending on winds and open roads, town staff will try to pickup garbage on Friday, September 30th, depending on damages.  

The town will evaluate whether to do some commercial garbage pickups on Thursday and Friday.

Hurricane IAN is not cooperating with predictability.  Town staff will do our best to serve residents using our services.

This is the official town government site for Lake Placid, Florida.  The town has a Mayor/Council form of government elected by the town's residents. The population of the town is estimated as of 2022 at 2,278 with a geographical area of 27.42 square miles.

The town has two nicknames—"Town of Murals" and "The Caladium Capital of the World." Lake Placid has more than 40 murals painted on buildings throughout the town,and 98 percent of the world's caladium bulbs come from Lake Placid. The Town combines a colorful combination of caladiums, murals, with a clown college that graduates 25 new clowns a year into the community. The combination assures a magnificent year round beauty that has repeatedly received national acclaim.
